San Antonio Realtor Spotlight: Charley Wasson

By September 25, 2016March 8th, 2024No Comments

The CKC team recently had the privilege to sit down with Charley Wasson, a local San Antonio realtor and one of CKC’s first clients, to discuss his thoughts on the real estate industry in San Antonio. Charley’s enjoyed a noteworthy career in the radio industry before making the switch to realty which made for enjoyable conversation over drinks. He serves all of Greater San Antonio, including Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, Helotes, Cordillera Ranch, Comfort, Alamo Ranch, Leon Springs, Anaqua Springs Ranch, Spring Branch, Bulverde, Canyon Lake, Garden Ridge, Schertz, New Braunfels and more.

Q&A With Charley Wasson

To start off, tell us a little about your experience in working with CKC for your own home.

Oh, “The Wasson” as my family and I call it. First off the home is still just as beautiful today as it was day one – so thank you Chuck and Kristal for that. We built it in 2006, so 10 years ago. The process of working with them was great. They kept us educated and guided us through each step of the process. We were blown away at the level of education and updates they provided throughout the build.

Chuck helped us choose the perfect lot for our style of home and our needs. He helped us set the ball in motion and assisted in every step including the financial arrangements. They are really full service!

My wife was in charge of most of the build, and she and Kristal worked closely to fine pick what we ultimately wanted. We’d be presented with a variety of quality options, never just a and b selections, and could always fall back on their expert opinion to guide the build.

We were nervous of building at the time but CKC gave me advice that I still use with my clients today. It is a big expense to build but to get everything custom, just the way you want it, you’ll never find anything else to meet those exact specifications on market. And honestly, don’t second guess and wait to build, the home you want will never cost less than it will cost today.

What was your deciding factor in working with CKC?

I actually received a great referral from a friend at church at the time who had glowing things to say about both Chuck and Kristal. Really glad he shared their names because it certainly has paid off to this day!

What’s your favorite thing about your new home?

Truthfully, there’s not part that we don’t like to this day. The things that I really love are the 18 foot ceilings in the living room and the huge garage. I still remember Chuck saying during the build “You can fit 3 suburbans and a golf cart in that bad boy!” Our back porch always creates amazing reactions when people first see it. We spend a lot of time out there. And we’re happy with the exterior too. Its style still definitely holds up to this date.

Jumping into your realty experience, what was the deciding factor to start a career in realty?

I started my professional career as a broadcaster. I worked for stations all across America including Alaska and loved that gig. Ultimately we ended up back in San Antonio and I was looking for a more stable jump into a career that required less traveling or jumping locations and the San Antonio real estate market presented a great opportunity. I still do radio on the side and you can actually catch me on KONO 101.1 from time to time.

Tell us a little about your experience in the real estate industry.

I started out working for production builders as a regional sales manager for a big builder in town. The thing I did notice about bigger builders though is that they do have very refined systems and processes, but their choices and selection seems limited – especially when compared to CKC. Anyways, when I started, I came in relatively novice but picked up the industry very quickly. Since then, I’ve grown in my knowledge of real estate including finance, mortgages and construction. From there, I eventually have grown to where I am today, always keeping one goal in mind – to make my clients as happy about their home and property as I am with my own.

Tell us about your experience in working with custom home builders for your clients.

I personally love it since it’s the easiest way to make sure a client gets exactly what they want in the end. Say you’re searching for a $600,000 home. You’re likely never going to find exactly what you’re looking for. If you have particular tastes, it’s always easier to turn to a builder like CKC because of all the elements of choice they give you. Choose your lot, choose your finishes, and so on. You’re ultimately spending a lot of money at that point, so why not get exactly what you want?

What are some of the most frequently asked questions that you have encountered?

I think the one I most often get is “Is now the right time to make a move?” And my answer is always “It’s the best time you will ever get.” Actually the best time was four years ago, so aside from finding a time machine to go back, you should move towards buying or building now.

What distinguishes you most from other realtors?

“You’re voice!” Chuck screams out. (Seriously, you have to hear Charley’ silky smooth radio voice.)

I really think one of my best differentiator is that I’m completely dedicated to real estate and that this is my full time job. The majority of realtors in San Antonio pick up realty as their hobby and I think it shows in their relationships with their clients. Since realty is my livelihood, I think my clients can see how much I really care about them and that they find their perfect home. But hey, maybe I should piggyback off of Chuck’s answer and start calling myself the “Radio Realtor!”
