How to Host a Housewarming Party

By March 29, 2016March 8th, 2024No Comments

So you’re all moved into your dream home. All of the boxes are unpacked, the furniture is arranged and the interior décor is flawless. Naturally, you want to celebrate your new abode with a housewarming party including friends, family and – of course – your new neighbors. Planning a gathering can sometimes be overwhelming, but don’t get bogged down in the details. Your soirée should be simple, welcoming and fun!

The CKC Custom Homes staff takes great pride in the design and construction of our custom homes, but we don’t stop there. We assist our homeowners with all aspects of their new custom home, including professional advice on how to throw the perfect housewarming party after your home is complete. Read over our step-by-step manual and get to planning.

STEP 1: Invitations

Decide on a date and time for your get-together. Choose a date that will be accessible for the majority of your guests and check the weather ahead of time. Send out invites via a free online service like Paperless Post at least a few weeks in advance. Follow up with a call or text within the week to solidify your guest list.

STEP 2: Food and Décor

Fresh flowers, candles, hor d’oeuvres and a few cocktail options are all you need to create a sophisticated ambiance. Additional decorations will detract from the features of your new home.

If you aren’t catering, select a handful of recipes that are easy and delicious. We love this simple Caprese Salad Skewers recipe, for example.

STEP 3: Entertainment

A simply acoustic act set up on the patio or a softly playing playlist may be the perfect way to set the mood. Make sure the volume is subtle so as not to interfere with discussions. Give your guests a full tour of your new home. Talk about the homebuilding process and projects to come – you may even come away with some great recommendations for artists to feature on your walls.

Prepare a few games or ice breaker in case conversation begins to lull.

STEP 4: Gifts

Housewarming gifts are customary, but shouldn’t be expected. The well wishes of others will be greatly appreciated and any gifts are, of course, welcome.

Gift bags for your guests are a great way to show your appreciation for their support. These can also be fabulous for leaving a good impression on your new neighbors. This goodie basket via prettymayhem.com is one example of a gift that will be universally appreciated.

STEP 5: Set a Limit

Your housewarming will be within the first few months of living in your new home, so you want to be sure and wrap your party at a reasonable hour. Your neighbors will appreciate this gesture a great deal.
